'I am interested in exploring discourse, and how the narratives are important processes we use in making our identities, memories and ultimately meaning our lives. I work on a small scale in oil paint, always painting from photographs. I work in oil paint because I enjoy the contrast of its weighty historical associations (as opposed to say, acrylic) that seem to contrast with what the medium is all about: the refractive properties of light. Photographs (both my own and ones that I find on the internet) are my point of departure when painting. I use photocopies of photographs, which I trace onto my surface, moving the painting away from its original source, getting a copy of a copy of a copy. I leave the traces of what happened while I was making the work such as writing down a phone number, address or the marks of where I cleaned my brushes.
